Elder Bard of Glastonbury
Elder Bard of Glastonbury, David Reakes, would normally be in our midst helping us to enjoy the humour, joy and power of the spontaneous spoken word. This year he's penned a special poem for our 2021 Festival.
"In this age of the digital bubble, the thirst that people of all ages have for reaching out and sharing tales and experiences both old and new seems to be fiercer than ever."

David has kindly written this little ditty to amuse us, which we hope you enjoy.
Snowdrop 1.0
A raindrop and snowflake once met up
Going in opposite ways.
“What are you doing?” Asked Raindrop.
The Snowflake said “This is the day
“When my season, Winter, is going,
The coming of Spring I have felt.
The time is now over for snowing,
I must hurry home or I’ll melt.”
“I’m sorry to hear that,” said Raindrop,
“Such a shame that we can’t co-exist.
But seasons must all start and then stop,
A process that none can resist.
“If only we somehow could fashion
A symbol to show all the world
That the seasons are not just a flash in
The pan, they slowly segue and unfurl.
“Between us if we could just mint a
Spanking new flowery thing,
With a white bud to signify winter
And a green stem to stand for the spring!”
The snowflake said “That sounds delightful!
To name it I think we should take
A small piece of both of our titles
And join them to call it Rainflake!”
And so, from that auspicious hour
The friends both toiled. They never shirked
Until they’d created their flower…
But agreed that the name needed work.
